Sonning Bridge has been closed until further notice because of flooding.
The road is used by hundreds of motorists every day to get from the Berkshire side of the River Thames to the South Oxfordshire side.
Wokingham Borough Council's highways team took the decision to close the bridge yesterday evening. The Playhatch Road, Sonning is also closed in both directions between the A4155 Henley Road and Pound Lane.
The closure means there is currently no Sonning through route from the A4 Bath Road to the A4155.
The Environment Agency issued a flood warning for Sonning and Wargrave on Monday and said some homes could be at risk of flooding.
However yesterday a spokesman said there had been no reports of property flooding.
The warning is expected to remain in place over the coming days. Because the River Thames is slow to respond to rainfall, it is feared levels could rise further today before subsiding.
Heavy rain continued on Monday and overnight yesterday before easing in the afternoon.
