A newborn lamb was shot dead in a field in Hurley on Wednesday night.
The shooting is believed to have happened between 7pm and 7am on Thursday.
The body of the animal was left at the scene just off the High Street.
A police spokeswoman said it is thought the incident may have happened accidentally when someone was shooting rabbits.
