Benefit cheat councillor Peter Lawless could face further action

A benefits cheat councillor could face further action after being suspended by the Windsor Conservative Association (WCA).

Royal Borough Cllr Peter Lawless (Independent, Eton Wick) admitting illegally claiming extra housing benefits payments and failing to declare a council allowance of nearly £20,000 over a three-year period.

He was given a two-year conditional discharge at Slough Magistrates' Court on Friday, August 8.

The WCA, based in St Leonards Road, is now considering taking further action against Cllr Lawless after indefinitely suspending him from the party and from the 2015 approved candidates list.

Cllr Lawless has already resigned from the Royal Borough's Conservative group but intends to remain as an independent councillor until the next elections in May.

The decision will be made at the WCA's executive council meeting on September 12.
