Conditions could not have been better as oarsmen launched their crafts into the water for the 2014 Maidenhead Regatta on Saturday.

More than 100 races took place throughout the day on a 500m stretch of the Thames in the shadow of Brunel's historic railway bridge.

The event, which is organised by the Maidenhead Rowing Club in River Road, has been running for more than 100 years, but introduced some new competitions for the first time this year

The exciting super sprint events ushered in frenetic competition along a shorter 250m course while the junior/master races saw youngsters competing alongside parents or coaches.

There was also a chance for casual and novice rowers of any age to enjoy the racing at the friendly regatta in the recreational races.

Huw Jenkins from Maidenhead Rowing Club said: "We like to have some fun events and give people the chance to race for the first time.

"We had a very good attendance including a lot of people coming from the town with no rowing association."
