A headteacher has said the new £1.6m leisure centre to be built at her school marks the culmination of 'many years' of campaigning.
The all-weather pitch, cricket wicket and gym will be built at Furze Platt Senior School, in Furze Platt Road, and could be completed by September 2015, subject to planning approval.
It will be used by pupils and open to the public after school hours.
Headteacher Tanya White said: "After campaigning for better sports facilities for many years we now have an opportunity to promote Furze Platt School as a centre of sporting excellence as well as encouraging more young people and their families to get active within the heart of their own community."
