A new headteacher for The Piggott School in Twyford Road has been appointed to take over from Hilary Winter in September.
Mrs Winter announced to pupils and staff on February 13 that she would be retiring at the end of the academic year.
It was announced on the Wargrave school's website on Monday that the governors have appointed Derren Gray, who is currently the deputy headteacher at Burnham Grammar School.
"We are really excited, really positive," said Helen Craig, chairwoman of governors.
The search was narrowed down from five candidates to two, and Mrs Craig said the panel decided Mr Gray had the real qualities to take the school forward.
"[Mrs Winter] has been fantastic. We want to really celebrate what she has done," she added.
