Carers in the Royal Borough are missing out on nearly £1.2m per year through unclaimed Carer’s Allowance.
Carers UK research estimates that 377 eligible carers across Windsor and Maidenhead are not claiming the allowance each year, which offers £59.75 a week to people caring at least 35 hours weekly.
Elspeth McPherson, chief executive of Berkshire Carers Service, said: “These shocking figures show that many unpaid carers are not recognising themselves as such and are not coming forward to seek support.”
New claimants can backdate the allowance for three months.
