Donate recycling reward points to local projects

People in Maidenhead and Windsor can now help raise £20,000 for local projects - just by recycling.

Royal Borough residents can donate recycling reward points to schemes bidding for council funding, raising up to £1,000 extra for each.

The points scheme is run by Greenredeem, formerly RecycleBank, and awards points based on how much people recycle, which can also be redeemed as vouchers for local businesses.

Council leader David Burbage said: "In this case points really do mean prizes for the organisations that attract residents' support."

The projects are those which have applied for the council's Neighbourhood Budget scheme, which awards £2,000 every two months to whichever proposal has received the most public votes.

Every 200 points donated equals £1 of extra funding.

Rob Crumbie, Greenredeem's communications director, said: "Being able to directly support local projects is another way of motivating people to take green actions."
