Review: Nirvana Spa, Wokingham

Water has always been the hero at Nirvana. The spa boasts water that is good enough to drink.

But, instead of putting it on the menu, they use it to fill their 15 pools which include an outstanding 15-station hydrotherapy spa, a floatation pool saturated with Dead Sea salt and indoor and outdoor pools to splash up and down or lounge about.

But now it’s time for treatments to start making waves.

Things beauty have historically occupied the smallest of corners in the UK’s largest day spa. Something of an add-on rather than a key part of a Nirvana spa experience. But that’s not how we spa these days. As the spa industry grows, so does the importance of creating beauty experiences that deliver results in a space that enhances our mood.

That space at Nirvana is a brand new beauty wing called the Crystal Treatment Suite. No prizes for guessing that the centrepiece of the main relaxation room is an enormous crystal which has been hollowed and lit from the centre with ever-changing deep hues of relaxation.

The crystal is circled by mosaic covered heated loungers on which to relax post treatment whilst sipping delicious beauty tea from Camellia’s Tea House. Off at the sides of the room are 12 treatment rooms – some single, some double, but all perfectly formed.

And a new suite deserves new treatments. Nirvana has worked with its established partners – Germaine de Capuccini, Decléor, Jessica and Celestial – to develop new face and body rituals.

Germaine de Capuccini’s menu offers to transport you beyond Wokingham: ‘Journey into Serenity’ (£76 for 80 minutes) is a body massage using Obsidian stones on your Chakra points; ‘Silks & Saffron’ (£99 for 110 minutes) combines eastern spices with a silky massage while the ‘Multi Sensorial Odyssey’ (£85 for 90 minutes) involves feathers.  Or at least that’s the one the lady in the room next to me thinks she had, so it’s best to check when you book if it’s feathers that you fancy.

To find out more about the treatments on offer at The Crystal Treatment Suite at Nirvana visit www.nirvanaspa.co.uk or call 0118 989 7500.  Christmas Retreat Packages for one you love (or at least like a lot) start at £105.
