Reading fighter Michael Sprott won the heavy weight Prizefighter championship for the second time at York Hall in London on Thursday.
The former British heavyweight champion beat American Jason Gavern in the final bout to seal the win and take the £32,000 prize money.
Sprott was presented with the Prizefighter trophy by boxing legend Larry Holmes.
The fighter used to be trained by Windsor's Jim Evans who spoke with Sprott before the competition and gave him a game plan.
“I helped get Michael into the competition, and I knew he’d be able to beat those donkeys,” he said.
“Good for him he’s won it and given himself a Christmas pay-day.
“I told him that his jab has got to be strong, to use the left hand over the top and don't get caught going to the ropes."
Evans wasn't particularly complimentary about the competition, saying it was for 'fat lumps who have past their sell by date'.
The event featured the former world heavyweight champion James Toney, who once defeated Evander Holyfield, but Evans said he was the most out of shape fighter in the competition.
Evans reckons Sprott should now be considered for a mandatory fight against British heavy weight champion David Price.
He added: “If he does he should take it because it’s a pay day, but he’ll need a game plan to make sure he doesn’t get hurt.
"He doesn’t just want one game plan, he’ll want three so he can change if it’s not going right.
“I don’t know if he can win, but a fight is never lost until it’s been won.”
