Flags were lowered at the war memorial outside the Town Hall in St Ives Road as a bugler sounded the last post and all in attendance bowed their heads to pay tribute to casualties of conflicts.
Cllr Jenner said: "The amount of support as great, even though it was raining.
"It was not just older people.
"A lot of younger people came out to show their respect which shows the respect out there for people who gave their lives so we can do what we do."
A window in the town hall was smashed following the two minutes silence after wadding from a ceremonial cannon hit it.
No one was hurt by the small hitch in proceedings.
