There were severe delays on the M4 westbound between Maidenhead and Reading this morning due to an accident investigation.
Firefighters were called to the scene last night at 2.49am by the Highways Agency as a car had left the road and was lying on its roof in a field 50 yards from the carriageway.
One man was trapped and had to be cut free.
A crew from Wokingham Road and two from Maidenhead attended the crash, which happened between junction 8/9 and 10.
The specialist unit from Dee Road also attended as heavy duty hydraulic cutting gear was needed.
Oxygen was given to the trapped man while firefighters worked to cut him free and he was then taken to hospital by ambulance.
Firefighters were there until 4.12am this morning and delays on the road continue as investigations take place.
