Tomorrow's planned second firefighters' strike has been called off by the Fire Brigade Union, leading to hopes that progress is being making in discussions with the Government.
The four hour strike was due to last from 7.30pm to 11.30pm and would have been the second in a month.
A spokesman for Berkshire Fire Authority said: "This is obviously welcome news and suggests positive progress in negotiations between the FBU and Government."
The dispute has arisen over plans to change the date of retirement for firefighters and concerns over the pension scheme.
