Plans for new school swimming pool given greenlight

Proposals to build a new swimming pool at Newlands Girls' School were backed by councillors at a planning meeting in Maidenhead last night.

The indoor pool, which would be used primarily by the Farm Road school but would also made available for swimming lessons for the wider community, was unanimously approved by councillors.

It will replace an existing outdoor pool at the site and will also include the installations of changing rooms.

Speaking at the Maidenhead Town Hall meeting, Cllr Kathy Newbound (Liberal, Pinkneys Green) said: "I support having this facility. I think it will be a benefit to the pupils of the schools. The fact that it is now going to be enclosed is positive."

Other applications discussed at the meeting included:

  • An application to build seven houses following the demolition of Ivanhoe and Craft Cottage in Cox Green Lane, Cox Green, was rejected on the basis of over development and it being out of character within the existing area.
  • The construction of eight flats following the demolition of two houses at 26-28 Forlease Road was approved.
