Proposals to build a new swimming pool at Newlands Girls' School were backed by councillors at a planning meeting in Maidenhead last night.
The indoor pool, which would be used primarily by the Farm Road school but would also made available for swimming lessons for the wider community, was unanimously approved by councillors.
It will replace an existing outdoor pool at the site and will also include the installations of changing rooms.
Speaking at the Maidenhead Town Hall meeting, Cllr Kathy Newbound (Liberal, Pinkneys Green) said: "I support having this facility. I think it will be a benefit to the pupils of the schools. The fact that it is now going to be enclosed is positive."
