The Royal Borough has announced a new partnership with property consultants GVA to explore the potential of the York Road Opportunity Area.
The move looks to bring the area action plan to life, taking control away from private developers and ensuring the borough retain a higher share of the financial reward from regeneration.
Cllr M J Saunders, the lead member for planning and property, revealed the appointment of GVA at last night’s cabinet meeting.
“This is a pivotal moment in the emerging story of the rejuvenation of Maidenhead,” he said.
“Until recently, the programme of regeneration in Maidenhead has been largely in the hands of private developer, some of which has been highly successful and some has gone astray.
“It is now time for the Royal Borough to position itself on the front line of several of the redevelopments, with York Road North being the first of several and at least three others to follow.”
The cabinet also approved the recommendation to investigate the implications of transforming the Desborough Suite in St Ives Road into a multi-purpose theatre complex.
