New wards constructed at Slough's Wexham Park Hospital in just 12 weeks are open for business.
The first ward to open was the 16-bed Christiansen unit, a surgical ward named after Maidenhead's own Paralympics 2012 triple gold medal winner Sophie Christiansen.
The second ward taking medical patients opened soon after.
Deirdre Thompson, director of nursing at the trust said: “After the decision was taken to build two new wards in January as a result of the extraordinary demand for beds we experienced, we have pulled out all the stops to make the beds a reality.
“We are coming out of a particularly difficult winter period which saw all trusts across the country struggle for beds. We are really pleased to be opening the new modular wards to take away some of the pressure parts of the hospital has been experiencing.
“The new wards will enable us to see the sickest patients quickly and allow them to get the treatment they need.”
The hospital is also investing in an oven system which will enable all patient meals to be served hot in less than 10 minutes.
