Power to buy and pay for healthcare services in the Royal Borough has now officially been placed in the hands of GPs.
As of Monday, the Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), led by Dr Adrian Hayter and other GPs, clinicians and lay members, has taken over planning and commissioning hospital, community and mental health services.
The CCG takes over responsibility for the area, which includes 20 GP practices, from the NHS Berkshire East Primary Care Trust.
There are a total of seven CCGs in Berkshire.
