The Royal Borough has apologised after a computer error led to some residents being sent incorrect council tax bills this week.
The error was spotted by residents who pay their council tax by direct debit, with 'a number of' bills featuring the wrong total for the amount owed.
The monthly payment schedule on the letters is correct, and residents have been assured they do not need to take any action to change their direct debit instructions to their banks.
Cllr Simon Dudley, cabinet member for finance, said: "This is a very unfortunate mistake and the council apologises that our residents have been caused any anxiety. We are carrying out a thorough investigation into how the error occurred to make sure it does not happen again."
Correct bills will be sent out as soon as possible over the next few days.
