The sports presenter and commentator Tony Gubba has died following a short illness, his family have confirmed.
Mr Gubba who lived in Sonning, spent much of his career at the BBC but recently found a new audience waxing lyrical for the ITV series Dancing on Ice.
The Sonning villager commentated on every series of the dancing show, including the latest series which finished last night. A stand in commentator replaced him for the last couple of weekends.
Mr Gubba, 69, worked for Sportsnight, Match of the Day and Grandstand. He was the fabled voice of Match of the Day for many seasons and covered every World Cup between 1974 and 2002.
He also covered every Olympic Games, summer and winter from 1972 to 2012.
He was a sports all-rounder commentating on a range of sports including tennis, hockey, golf, table tennis, ski-jumping and bobsleigh for the BBC.
Tributes have today been paid to him from the world of showbusiness and sport.
Dancing on Ice presenter Phillip Schofield, said on Twitter: "It's with the saddest of hearts that I tweet the news that our dear friend Tony Gubba has passed away. We were all aware how poorly he was."
Former Nottingham Forest and Liverpool footballer Stan Collymore tweeted: "Very sad to hear of the passing of Tony Gubba. One of the great sports commentary voices."Most read
