Mum distraught after being forced to leave council accommodation
Kelly Thomson

A recovering alcoholic was left devastated after being forced to leave council accommodation in Langley.

Kelly Thomson and her two-year-old daughter Louise Brown had to leave the bed and breakfast where they have been staying for four months on Wednesday.

They had been living there since Kelly completed her alcohol detox and took back the care of her daughter.

She has not had a drink for 13 months.

Slough Borough Council says the 34-year-old mum made herself 'intentionally homeless' when she left a property in Bournemouth in 2010.

But Kelly says she left because she was suffering with depression, alcoholism and post-natal depression and wanted to be closer to her mum's home in Colnbrook and her son who lived with his dad, also in Colnbrook.

She had planned to barricade herself in at the B&B in Rambler Lane as she feared being homeless with her daughter in the cold, winter conditions.

Kelly said: "I think it is disgusting to be honest, I am on the verge of relapsing or having a breakdown.

"I can't go on the streets with my daughter. Slough council are a disgrace."

The council says Kelly was asked to leave the B&B in December because she had 'made herself intentionally homeless and therefore was not entitled to housing support'.

This decision was then reviewed, meaning that she could stay for 28 days more but following the review the original decision still stands.

As she has a child, her case has also been referred to children's social services.

A spokeswoman said: "We are working closely with Miss Thomson to ensure she has the necessary support and we will be offering advice and assistance in her efforts to secure accommodation for her."

They are now staying at Kelly's mum's but the house is overcrowded with two teenagers already there.

Kelly said: "All I want is a roof over my daughter's head.

"They have just left me, put me out on the streets, said they are not dealing with me any more unless I take them to court.

"I asked social services to help me and all they did was try and take my daughter away from me."
