A petition seeking support for a garden centre threatened with closure has been presented to councillors.
The document, which called on Wokingham Borough Council (WDC) to do ‘everything it can to ensure that Hare Hatch Sheeplands [in London Road] continues to operate as a financially viable enterprise’, had gained about 2,500 signatures by the time it was handed over to the council’s chief executive Andy Couldrick on Friday, October 7.
In a statement, Rob Scott, the owner of the garden centre, said: “As everyone knows, the petition containing 12,000 signatures was not considered by WBC because it concerned a planning issue.
“This petition, which we put together in just a few weeks, was worded with the advice of WBC and we hope it will lead to a public debate on the issue.”
