Sam Beckwith acknowledged Maidenhead United were blown off course in the first half as they conceded ‘three sloppy goals’ to Dagenham and Redbridge on Tuesday evening.
Having convincingly swept aside King’s Lynn Town at the weekend, the Magpies were optimistic to add to an unbeaten run of five matches at Victoria Road.
But, playing with a strong wind at their backs, the Daggers seized control of the game in the opening 45 minutes with goals from Junior Morias and Paul McCallum (two).
“The damage was pretty much done in the first half,” said Beckwith.
“It was very disappointing and we were poor considering how well we’ve done over the past month or so.
“We gave away three sloppy goals which put us in a tough place to come back from. The second half was a bit better but still nowhere to how we have been performing recently, and we know as players it was not good enough.
“At half-time, the message was to try pick ourselves up and go get an early goal. It didn’t come, however, and coming back from 3-0 away is always going to be tough.”
Beckwith added: “Individually, I know I have to do better than last night (Tuesday), and I will look back on the game and assess my own performance. We must forget about this game now and move forward quickly as the games come thick and fast.
“We know what we’re capable of and we will look to put it right this weekend against Altrincham.”
