Josh Kelly lauds Magpies' fans for 'lifting' the side in Woking clash

Josh Kelly lauded Maidenhead United’s fans for 'lifting' the side who fought back from losing positions twice before going on to snatch maximum points from Woking at the weekend.

The Cards got themselves in front first before Sam Barratt was able to equalise, and Kelly was able to get the Magpies level again with a wonderful strike in the 75th minute.

In front of the raucous home supporters, Barratt nodded in the game’s winner and was able to celebrate with a handful of them before being dragged away by his euphoric teammates.

“It was a great win,” said Kelly. “When we let in one of the goals, I think we were on the ropes a little bit. But, as soon as the red card happened, I could see us winning all day.

“I got my goal, which is what I needed, and I should have had a few more before that. Sam scored to get the winner, and that was also good for him.

“As soon as we scored [the equaliser], everyone just lifted us. It got us all going and then we felt confident the third goal was always going to come.

“It was great to have the fans here, and it always is.”

On the team’s spirits, Kelly added: “I feel like we’ve been a bit unlucky here and there, and we weren’t really putting 100% in [our last few games].

“But the FA Cup game has been a turning point for us. We needed that, and we got the win today aswell. Now, we have got Wrexham on Tuesday which is going to be a tough game.

“We will try and do the same again on Tuesday as we did today – get the points, and then go again the game after.”
