Emirates FA Cup action returns this weekend with Marlow FC visiting Sheppey United and Flackwell Heath journeying to Weston-super-Mare for the competition’s first qualifying round.

The Blues have got past this stage in the tournament more often than not in recent years, progressing three times in the last four seasons, so they will be hopeful the familiarity serves them well.

The Heathens meanwhile have just once gone beyond the first qualifying round in the last six years. They could be hard-pressed to break the habit against the Step 3 side who last exited the Cup before the second qualifying round 20 years ago.

On Marlow FC’s fixture, boss Mark Bartley said: “Ideally, you’d like a home draw but we’re away to Sheppey United which is quite a long drive.

“They play at Step 5, and they’ve got some very good players. Also, last week, they had a good result against Chatham Town who are largely regarded as one of the best teams, or probably the best team, at Step 5 in the South of England.

“So, we are aware they are a good side, but I believe we’re a very good side. If we play at the level we have been at previously, then it will take some side to beat us.

“We plan on going there and making sure we do the right things. The boys know they’re more than capable so we’re not too worried.

“We’re just focusing on us getting there and coming away with a good result.”

Flackwell Heath’s boss Marcus Richardson added: “I have confidence in my team.

“We know it’s not going to be easy, but as long as we work hard for each other, we could come away with a result.

“I’m looking forward to it, and I know the boys are too.”
