Dylan Asonganyi is 'excited' to work with Alan Devonshire at Maidenhead United

Dylan Asonganyi says boss Alan Devonshire was the main attraction on returning to Maidenhead United as the club announced the player’s addition to the 2021/22 squad on Sunday.

The 20-year-old joins the Magpies after time at MK Dons, Oxford United, and a brief loan spell at York Road at the end of the 2019/20 season.

Asonganyi played just the one game for Maidenhead, notably assisting then-Magpies striker Ody Alfa with a skilful lob in a 2-1 defeat to Stockport County, before his loan was cut short due to the pandemic.

Now, the forward is hopeful he will get greater opportunities to showcase what he is capable of and ‘create some magic’ for the Magpies’ faithful who are anticipated to pack the stands in the forthcoming campaign.

“Most importantly, I’m excited to be back with the gaffer,” said Asonganyi. “He has belief in me and knows that I can play. Hopefully, I can get back out there and help the team as much as I can.”

“I can’t wait to get on the pitch. I like to get the ball, make chances, score goals, create goals, and just have fun out there. I also think I can create some magic.

“Even though we lost that [game against Stockport County], I really enjoyed playing at York Road. The fans were great, and they lifted us the whole game. I hope that they’re all keeping safe and we will see them again soon.”

Having seen the likes of Josh Coley and Danilo Orsi-Dadomo impress in their debut seasons at York Road, Asonganyi is hopeful he can follow suit to help lift Maidenhead United higher in the National League table.

“This season, we will try and push for promotion as much as possible,” he said. “Everybody in this league are trying to go up so it will be good if we can make an effort aswell.”

“I kept an eye on the boys (Maidenhead United) last year and to be fair, they done very well.

“Progression in my career is very important but I’m always focussed on the task at hand.

“Most importantly, I want to be on the pitch having fun and bringing a smile to the fans’ faces after what has been a difficult year and a half.”
