Derek Sweetman 'chuffed to pieces' after Holyport do the double over Long Crendon

Derek Sweetman was ‘chuffed to pieces’ to see Holyport beat Long Crendon twice in the space of a few days in Hellenic League Division 1 East.

Port claimed a routine 2-0 victory over Long Crendon at Summerleaze Village on Saturday, with Dan Rapley and Adam Sharp on the scoresheet. But Sweetman will have been fearing the rematch in mid-week with the home side likely to be out to gain some revenge.

He needn’t have worried, however, as Port improved on their performance at home with Andy Forisky, Fabian Driffill and an own goal separating the sides at Marsh Lane.

Those victories have put Port’s promotion push firmly back on track with the side moving back up to fourth in the table.

“We were dominant on Saturday but I think last night (Tuesday) we were even better, “ said Sweetman.

“The lads were very professional from start to finish and we were very comfortable. There wasn’t any point that I felt we we were going to lose the game. Tactically we got it spot on and we were very rarely under threat. It was a job well done and I’m chuffed to pieces with the response from the boys since we had a little hiccup at Christmas. We’re back on track.”

“The top four go up this year and we’re handily placed for that, “ added Sweetman.

“We’ve still got some tough games to come but it’s definitely within our reach if we do what we’re capable of doing and what we have done for the first half of the season. I don’t see any reason why we can’t finish in that top four and gain a promotion place.”

Holyport won’t have far to go to play their away game on Saturday, with the side taking on Summerleaze Village tenants Langley on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

Marlow United are clinging onto a place in the top 10 after suffering consecutive defeats to Wallingford Town (1-0) and Abingdon United (2-4) this week.

United are eighth in the table ahead of this Saturday’s trip to Aston Clinton in the Supplementary Cup.
