Marlow United soar into second place after 5-0 win over Langley

Qwam Thomas

The Flying Blues are playing up to their nickname this season as they extended their unbeaten run to eight matches with a 5-0 trouncing of Langley FC at Summerleaze Village on Tuesday night.

The torrential rain did very little to dampen United’s enthusiasm for the task in hand as they piled on the pressure and created chances galore.

They carried a one-goal advantage into the break, given to them by captain Chris Hurst, before stepping up the tempo in merciless fashion after the interval.

A strike from JC Etienne and a second goal of the night from Hurst quickly made it 3-0 while a fourth goal from Curtis left Langley feeling breathless and bemused.

Hurst concluded the goal-scoring with his third of the night – securing his second hat-trick in as many games – just after the hour mark.

“We were only 1-0 up at half time and Langley were still well in the game,” said manager James Pritchard.

“There were a few conversations [at half time] said about what we were expecting and in the second half, I thought we were outstanding.

“Everyone took on board the feedback they were given and we scored four goals in the second half. I think there could have been more.”

The victory lifts Marlow to second in Hellenic League Division 1 East, equal on points with leaders Risborough Rangers.

United face a tough away fixture at Wokingham this Saturday.
