Flackwell Heath FC march into the next round of Challenge Cup as captain Bailey returns

Flackwell Heath were back in cup action at the weekend, beating Abingdon United comfortably at The Northcourt.

Boss Marcus Richardson named a changed side, handing Ben Vicos and Khedive McIntosh their debuts. Captain Dan Bailey also returned to the team after almost five months out with injuries.

It was McIntosh who made an instant impact. The ball was driven down the right-hand side by Marcos Ushiro-Lumb who whipped it in towards centre-half-turned-centre-forward Mo Ceesay. The Abingdon stopper could only punch Ceesay’s effort away as far as McIntosh who calmly struck the ball into the net.

The Reds extended their lead on the half-hour mark. James Burrell’s whipped corner from the right-hand side was met by a towering Mo Ceesay who headed past the keeper.

The only other chance for the Heathens fell to James Mansfield. The centre-mid picked up the ball in the centre circle, dribbled past two defenders and hit a left footed strike from 25 yards that whistled past the post.

The Reds dominated the second half in possession and chances but could not extend their lead any further, the match finishing 2-0.

Flackwell's next fixture is not until Tuesday October, 8 against Shrivenham in the B&B Senior Cup.
