Maidenhead United u18s spoil Satsumas with 2-1 victory at Lowther Road

The Magpies u18s returned to winning ways against Wokingham & Emmbrook with a deserved 2-1 victory at a cold and damp Lowther Road.

Keen to put a disappointing run behind them, the young Magpies started well with Marko Borkovic winning the ball high up in the Satsumas half, feeding Fraser Keetch who hit a firm drive narrowly off target.

Borkovic then did well to deliver a fine cross which narrowly evaded Keetch - brother of first teamer Bradley - at the far post.

A great interception by Mo Bouzidi thwarted a promising move by the home side before an impressive lung-busting run from Dirkin fed Borkovic who clipped his effort just wide.

Skipper Harrison Playle served notice of his threat by bundling a corner wide before the hosts passed up two good chances

The Satsumas forward first blasted wide when played through on goal then placed the ball the wrong side of Chapman's far post following a long ball down the left flank.

Chapman then denied the frustrated the home forward once more with a good save on the stroke of half time, by which time Maidenhead had edged into the lead when Playle this time got a telling touch onto a Borkovic corner.

Early in the second half Borkovic was denied by the Satsumas goalkeeper before firing a free-kick over the top.

Finlay Scott was denied an imaginative volleyed goal by a fine save before the lead was doubled just after the hour as Borkovic turned and drove accurately into the far corner.

Despite being second best at this stage the hosts were almost immediately back in it, scoring directly from a corner and despite the home side  forcing a number of set pieces in the frantic closing stages Maidenhead had the best chances to seal the win.

Gibson was unable to convert at the far post after more impressive work by Dirkin, Reece Smith struck the post and then substitute trio Crocker, Smith and Croker linked up well with the latter screwing wide.

Croker was denied at the death in a one-on-one but Maidenhead were happy to settle for two goals and three points.
