Burnham FC manager Paul Shone has called on his attackers to step up and start scoring more goals after netting only one in their last two games.
The Blues fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Easington Sports on Tuesday and required a last-minute equaliser from James Tripp in a 1-1 draw with Brimscombe & Thrupp on Saturday.
Burnham now lie 17th in the Hellenic League Division One, two places off the bottom, and manager Shone says he has told his forwards he expects more from them.
He said: “Looking at the last couple of games we have scored one and zero, that’s not good enough.
“We have enough quality in the final third to score those chances, that's something we have to work on this week for Saturday.”
Despite the last-minute goal against Brimscombe & Thrupp, Shone felt that with the chances his side had, they should have emerged from the game with three points.
He said: “The keeper pulled off some good saves, we hit the crossbar from two yards and one of our players fell over when he was clean through.”
Despite the disappointing draw, Shone feels that later in the season, his side may look back at the result and consider it a crucial point.
He said: ”For the last 15 minutes they were hanging on, bare-bones, but we might see this as a good point when we are looking back.”
Despite a pair of disappointing results, the manager has been able to draw some positives and has been encouraged by his team’s defending.
He said: “Defensively, we are brilliant.
“The defenders are great players but we need the guys up front to relieve the pressure from them.”
