Slough Borough Council faced questions last night over when the town’s bus station is expected to reopen following a devastating fire.
The transport hub, in Brunel Way, suffered thousands of pounds worth of damage during a blaze in the early hours of October 29 last year.
The station is yet to reopen but bus operators have continued to provide services from nearby bus stops in the town centre.
Former Labour councillor Preston Brooker asked for an update on the bus station during a full council meeting at Observatory House last night.
Conservative councillor Puja Bedi responded: “Lengthy negotiations between the council and its insurance loss adjusters are drawing to a conclusion.
“When these are completed and an insurance award has been made, we will then be able to start planning repair works.”
When questioned again over a potential date for re-opening the bus station, Cllr Bedi told the meeting the council is still not at the stage where it can make a firm announcement.
She added: “I think it’s important to note that the bus station has been historically underinsured by the previous administration which has made the negotiations more difficult.
“We’re unable to do anything until conversations have come to a conclusion.”
