A primary school is being allowed to build a ‘modular’ building for six new classrooms and a dedicated ‘family support’ area.

Applicants are set to put in the new building at Claycots Primary School on 19 Bath Road (site of the old town hall).

The new building will offer ‘a dedicated secure space’ for the family support team, where they can offer support to vulnerable children and their families.

This includes sessions for those children under nursery age, plus partnership working with other professionals to meet the needs of the individual children.

It will also add additional classroom space, which can also be used for indoor PE lessons when the weather prevents outdoor PE lessons.

The space which can be used for lettings in the community, ‘which will provide additional income for the school in the future.’

It can be used by community organisations ‘to develop partnerships and support our local community.’

Some ‘play structures’ will be demolished, freeing up the space.

The application was approved with certain conditions – including using the building as a support facility room/classroom only between the hours of 8.30am to 3.30pm to reduce noise and traffic pressures.
