Men's teams miss out on podium finishes at World Rowing Cup in Poland

There was disappointment for Windsor’s Ollie Cook and Marlow’s Rory Gibbs after they missed out on a medal in the men’s fours at the World Rowing Cup in Poznan, Poland.

The pair – alongside Matt Rossiter and Sholto Carnegie – were crowned European champions earlier this month, but missed out on a podium spot after finishing fourth in the final.

They qualified for the final in second place.

The European bronze medal winning men’s quad, which features Maidenhead’s Jack Beaumont and Pete Lambert, were also raced out of medal contention, finishing fifth in a tightly contested final.

Maidenhead Rowing Club’s Andy Houghton also just missed out on a podium place. His Para-Rowing teammate Ben Pritchard put in a fantastic display to take bronze in the PR1 men’s single scull, before paying tribute to Houghton.

“Andy’s a great athlete and role model so I have to thank him for my performance today,” he said.

“Without him being such a supportive person to train alongside I definitely couldn’t be achieving these times.”
