Medals galore as Eton's rowers excel at England Indoor Championships

Eton Excelsior’s junior rowers swept to an impressive eight-medal haul at Sunday’s South of England Indoor Championships.

In a competition which attracted almost 700 entries from clubs and schools, the Excelsior crews came away with four golds and four silvers, medalling in all of their eight categories.

The club’s J16 relay crew of Sachin Chadda, Ben Carr, Jude Thuo, and Kieran Hennesy-Hunt not only won gold, but also broke the event record by 30 seconds.

The WJ14 relay crew of Mia Vickerman, Evie Hannon, Sabriel Achong and Isabella Checkley, the J15 relay crew of Sachin Chadda, Morgan Williams and Aaditya Gupta, plus the WJ17 relay crew of Amy Donaldson, Claire McCraken, Beatrix Leedom and Holly Smith were also gold medal winners.

The four silver medals were won in the J13 relay by Jan Pleskac, Jakub Pleskac and Zane Al-Hashimi, the WJ14 relay by Olivia Bennett, Emily Light, Naia Hill and Jemima Wales, the WJ15 relay of Cana Williams, Ellen Saunders, Jessica Wiblin and Nat- asha Egger, and the J17 relay by Sacha Lachin, Aaron Lachin, Austin Galli and Adam Smith

Eton Excelsior’s director of rowing and junior coach Al Horn spoke of his pride at the club’s success.

“We have an incredible team of young rowers at Eton Excelsior, and we couldn’t be more proud of them today as they fought their way to the top two tiers of the podium in every single race,” he said.

“We very much hope that their success helps encourage other aspiring young people to take up the sport.”

The club, based on a stretch of the river Thames near Windsor Marina welcomes children from year seven up.
