Plans to carry out repairs on the historic Stoke Park mansion feature in this week’s public notices.

An application has been submitted to Buckinghamshire Council seeking Listed Building Consent to carry out opening up works to determine the extent of rot and damage to the fabric of the Grade I-listed mansion.

According to the design, access and heritage statement, the building was originally built for the Penn family, after their return from America, following the American War of Independence.

Many alterations and additions have taken place during the lifespan of the house, with ‘significant’ alterations occurring at the turn of the 20th century when Stoke Park became a golf course, a country club and hotel, it added.

The plans would also include the removal of damaged and non-performing areas.

The works would also feature the removal of

defective flashings around chimney stacks and the examination of cornices and stonework.

The removal of rotten timber window frames will also feature.

The work will also see the internal lifting of floorboards to review the floor structure and the removal of elements of internal plasterwork and ceilings where there is dampness.

The statement added that opening up are

proposed in three to four phases, with the first phase dealing solely with the north west corner of the building.

A separate application for Listed Building Consent seeks to carry out

repairs to the exterior of Stoke Park Mansion,

including roof structures and façade repairs.

According to the design, access and heritage statement, the first stage of phase one of the works will be to open up areas to ‘gain a greater understanding of the extent of deterioration’ to the fabric of the building.

In all phases, elements of the roof overing and wall protection will be installed to ‘ensure the protection of the interior of the building’, it added.

Elsewhere, plans have been submitted to Buckinghamshire Council to install two polytunnels and an administration marquee for three years at Stoke Park Golf Club in Park Road.
