Berkshire trainer Jack Channon saddled two winners at Windsor on Saturday and just missed out on a hat-trick, writes Dave Wright.

The son of former England and Southampton legend Mick Channon scored first with Arkhalia Flynn in the Kelly Chapman, Platinum Air Cargo UK Handicap and followed up with Elforleather in the concluding June and Charlie Anniversary Handicap. Both were ridden by George Bass and sent off as the favourite.

West Ilsley-based Jack had earlier gone close in the Weatherbys Global Stallions App Winter Hill Stakes. Certain Lad led over a furlong out, only to go down by a neck to the 2/1 favourite My Prospero, trained by William Haggas and ridden by Cieren Fallon.

The winner holds entries for the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on September 14 and the British Middle Distance Stakes on Champions Day at Ascot a month later.

Windsor's feature race, the Weatherbys Digital Solutions August Stakes, was won by Sea Of Roses (6/1) with Hayley Turner riding for Andrew Balding.

The four-year-old, who had not won since October 2022, just did enough to hold on by a neck from 11/10 favourite Deira Mile, who was having his first run since finishing fourth behind Aidan O'Brien's superstar City Of Troy in the Epsom Derby in June.

Trained by Owen Burrows at Lambourn, Deira Mile may next be seen in the last Classic of the season, the St Leger, at Doncaster on September 14.

Promising apprentice Sean D Bowen won the Thames Alfa Romeo Slough Handicap on 7/1 shot Tourist trained by Hilal Kobeissi. The three-year-old led for most of the way in the six-furlong race but, in the closing stages, was pressed hard by Havana Pusey and had just a neck advantage as they flashed past the post.

The Godolphin-owned Midnight Thunder, with Kieran O'Neill doing the steering, got off the mark at the second time of asking by winning the Get Raceday Ready Novice Stakes. Despite easing up in the closing stages of six-furlong contest, they finished just under five lengths clear of the runner-up, Double Rush, who was making his racecourse debut for Lambourn's Charlie Hills.

Early in the meeting, a torrential downpour got into the ground, and after the going had been changed to soft, a total of 10 runners withdrew from the meeting.

There is more racing at Windsor next Monday (3rd) with the first race due off at 4.30.
