Claires Court Schools enjoyed a spectacular week on the rugby pitch, with both the U15 and U16 squads securing vital victories in the third rounds of their respective national competitions, demonstrating both flair and brute force in their pursuit of silverware.
The Claires Court U15 team delivered a stunning performance in the third round of the National Vase competition, overwhelming St Clement Danes School with a display of fast, free-flowing rugby.
From the first whistle, Claires Court made their intentions clear, launching ambitious attacks deep from their own half. Their commitment to expansive, 'keep-the-ball-alive' rugby proved too much for the opposition to handle. Outside Centre and Man of the Match nominee Wojciechowicz, was electric, crossing the line twice in quick succession to establish an early, commanding lead.
While St Clement Danes fought valiantly and stuck relentlessly to their defensive task, they struggled to contain the continuous flow of Claires Court tries. The score sheet quickly filled up, with Robertson and Whyte both adding a brace of tries, supported by impressive individual efforts from Baily, Voster-Davidson, and Slater.
The victory sends the U15s confidently into the next round. They now play London Oratory in the Regional Semi Final.
Following the U15s' expansive success, the Claires Court U16s showcased a completely contrasting but equally dominant approach against Bishop Wordsworth School in the highly competitive National Cup.
Adopting a far more direct and powerful style, the U16s relied on their dominant forward pack to establish control. Bishop Wordsworth put up strong resistance in the opening quarter. But once their defensive line was breached, the scoring flowed. The U16s’ powerful backline converted forward dominance into points, with Hickson leading the charge with twol tries. Further scores from Eldridge, Hinchey, Storey, and Ainsley sealed a comfortable and powerful 43-17 victory. They will face the exciting challenge of England legend Johnny Wilkinson's former school Lord Wandsworth College in the next round. The U14’s face the touch challenge of St Edwards Oxford this week if they are to match the U15’s and 16’s success.
