Drifters RFC take 'difficult decision' to withdraw from league

Drifters Rugby Club has taken the ‘difficult decision’ to withdraw from the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier Division with immediate effect and their results this season have already been expunged,

The club has managed three victories in the league this season, but injuries and unavailability have meant they've struggled to field a team on too many occasions.

It feels this is unfair to the players of Drifters, who have turned up for matches on a regular basis, but also the players of teams the club is due to play.

They'll continue to organise and play friendly matches where possible for the remainder of the 2021-22 season and it remains to be seen whether a recruitment drive will take place in the summer to enable the club to compete in league rugby next season.

Drifters later thanked everyone for their messages of support on Twitter and insisted the club would be back.

Responding to the news on Twitter, Maidenhead RFC centre Ed Keohane has invited players from the club to come down to Braywick Park to see what opportunities there are for the remainder of the season, or simply just to keep fit and continue training.

League rivals Slough have also struggled for form of late, losing their last six league matches. The seventh placed side are due to return to action at home to Bletchley on Saturday, February 19.
