Riaz scores first half brace as Singh Sabha ease to victory in cup

Umar Riaz scored a first half brace as Singh Sabha eased to a comfortable 4-1 away win at Prestwood Reserves in the High Wycombe Junior Challenge Cup on Saturday.

They came into the tie off the back of a huge 9-3 win over AFC Cressex in the Maidenhead Norfolkian Cup and once again seized the initiative in the early stages.

However, it took a moment of brilliance to break the deadlock when Sukh Hunjan picked up the loose ball on the edge of the area and fired into the top corner. Riaz then got the first of his brace when he darted into the box to fire home from Rushid Hamid’s cross. The two players combined again for Riaz to get his second as he cut inside his man before smashing the ball past the Prestwood keeper.

Pritpal Raju was the next to get in on the act, dusting himself down to despatch a penalty late in the half after being brought down in the area. The second half was more of a timid showing from Sabha, who switched off at the back to allow Prestwood a consolation goal.

Sabha are back in action after the Christmas break on January 4.

Goals From Rushid Hamid, Hassan Mahmood and Jovan Bains earned Singh Sabha’s Sunday team a 3-1 win over LA Micro in the Bob Smith Trophy.

The holders made no mistake in the first round, producing a good, battling, display to get back to winning ways.

Hamid scored their first, cutting inside his defender before finishing to make it 1-0 at the break. Micro levelled matters when their striker ran through to lob Sabha keeper Tonca, but Mahmood picked up a pass from Hamid and unleashed an unstoppable shot to make it 2-1.

Some resolute defending was needed to preserve their lead before the impressive Hamid picked out Bains who finished coolly to make the final score 3-1. They will travel to Masters FC in the next round of the competition this Sunday.
