SLOUGH Scorpionz won an all expenses paid trip to Ibiza after becoming UK National 5-a-side champions.
After winning their Slough Powerleague, the club made up of Bally Singh, Pritpal Raju, Jovan Bains, Dillon Baines, Naheer Nawaf and Hassan Monir qualified for the National Finals.
Scorpionz started their group well, winning their first match 4-1, but came unstuck against pre-tournament favourites Pro Evolution, losing 2-1. However, they won their two remaining games to qualify as runners-up.
Scorpionz beat Step Daddys from Leeds with two late goals from Nawaf to set up a semi-final clash with local rivals Dash. Nawaf was again on target twice along with Monir and Bains as the side progressed to the final with a 4-2 win.
In the final the side kept their only clean sheet of the entire tournament to beat Pro Evolution 2-0 with late goals from Nawaf and Monir.
Coach Zufran Asghar said: “Every player played a part from the keeper through to the young lads who came off the bench. Its been a tough few years for Scorpionz who have played in over 20 national 5 a side tournament finals up and down the country at different venues and finally came through as winners this time round, huge relief for everyone involved with the club and will now look forward to trying to win more national titles and becoming one of the best or the best 5 a side football club in the country.”
