1979: A cast of 40 children presented Gilbert & Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore to an audience of parents and friends at Woodlands Park Primary School.

Pinafore was chosen because its naval theme, drama and romance caught the imagination of the children.

1979: Smewins Farm at Shottesbrooke was invaded by hundreds and hundreds of fairgoers when the Maidenhead Young Farmers’ Club held its 20th annual charity show.

There was a great variety of attractions for all ages: a horse show, a dog show and dog races, rides, games, donkey racing, and much more.

1984: Maidonians sweltered during the hottest weekend of the year as gardeners were warned to cut down on the use of hoses.

With temperatures rising to 32 degrees, the open air swimming pool in Cookham Road proved especially popular.

1984: A caterpillar of colourful floats meandered its way between Bourne End and Wooburn Green for the villages’ carnival.

Villagers swarmed to the Wooburn Park showground to enjoy a fun day out for the family, which included a stunt demo.

1994: Holyport residents cheered after a popular postie made a return to Springfield Park.

Ivor Spillett went above and beyond in his role, but in 1993 his rounds were changed – prompting a 470-signature petition by villagers for his return.

Two years later, he was able to return to Holyport following another round reshuffle.

1994: A Marlow bobby who was involved in capturing those responsible for the Great Train Robbery retired after 30 years in the force.

Malcolm Stevens never worked far from Marlow, where he lived, operating at stations in Gerrards Cross, Leafield and Lane End before coming to Marlow, where he stayed for nine years.

1999: Emotional farewells were made to headteacher Jenny Murphy when she retired after more than 11 years at White Waltham Primary School.

She enjoyed an evening of sad goodbyes with parents and governors while officially opening the new administration block at the school.

Pupils also held a picnic and barbecue in her honour, which included a pantomime performance.
