Jacqueline Heller has a double cause for celebration at Berkshire's Cross Country Championships

Jacqueline Heller had double cause for celebration this weekend after gaining an individual bronze and leading Cookham Running Club’s u13s girls’ team to a team silver in the Berkshire Cross Country Championships.

On a testing and waterlogged course in Ashenbury Park, Woodley, Heller safely secured her place on the Berkshire County squad with a third place finish.

Automatic selection was also gained by Natalie Matthews, seventh, and Asmi Saha, eighth, while impressive packing from Cookham’s B team saw them finish fifth. They were led home by Grace Allan in 11th, just ahead of Eva Bartlett in 12th. Carys Allan completed the team in 15th place.

Frank McGrath was also selected for the UK Inter-Counties Championships in Loughborough on March 7 after finishing fifth in the u15s boys’ race. Ben Reynolds will also travel after coming fifth in the u17s men’s event. Joe Challis, who has another two years of competing in the u13s boys age group, placed ninth in his race and is first reserve for the Berkshire team.

There was also impressive packing from Cookham’s Masters Men’s team in the senior 10k race. Matt Holmes led the team’s athletes home in 25th place, followed by Lee Bodell who chased him all the way to the line in 26th. James Dickinson was 28th and Ayushman Saha 29th as the men’s team came seventh overall.
