Boxer Aaron Sinclair believes he’ll adapt very well to boxing over six rounds as he looks ahead to a busy – and hopefully celebratory – new year both in and out of the ring.
Sinclair came through his latest professional bout against Nabil Ahmed unscathed, taking a unanimous decision from the judges in the Rebirth event at Magnet Leisure Centre on Saturday night.
This was the toughest of his four professional bouts to date, but Sinclair felt that ‘anything his opponent could do, he could do better’.
The new year will be a pivotal one for Sinclair in several ways. He’ll have to juggle the demands of becoming a new father with his promising boxing career, as he looks to set up a bout for the Southern Area title.
To do that he’ll have to prove himself over six rounds, something the 24-year-old believes he’s now physically and mentally ready for.
“This was the first opponent I felt came to give it their best shot,” said the super bantam-weight fighter.
“Those watching the fight thought it was the best opponent I’ve faced so far so I’m happy about that.
“I felt that anything he could bring to the fight, I could do better anyway.”
Sinclair has taken some significant strides forward in 2019, under the guidance of his father Andy, who bowed out of the professional boxing game at the Magnet Leisure Centre 32 years ago.
And the new year is shaping up to be one full of celebrations in the Sinclair household.
“My next fight will probably be in February,” he said.
“We haven’t got a date announced for our next fight yet but 2020 will be the first time I do a six-rounder and I’ll probably have two six-round fights before moving towards the Southern Area title.
“I one hundred per cent want to be the Southern Area champion and, if I could get one more title in, like an English title, that would be brilliant.
“But I also have a baby on the way so it will be a very busy year for me.”
He added: “With my dad being a professional I’ve gained a lot of knowledge from him. He also comes down to the gym and trains me and some of the other lads so there is some great knowledge there and he really pushes us to the limit.”
