A new wheelchair basketball team are hoping to reign supreme in the British leagues after being successfully launched in Windsor.
The Windsor Monarchs are backed by local businesses and volunteers and have the support of Windsor Leisure Centre, where they'll play their home matches.
The centre is run by Legacy Leisure and managed by Andrew Kennedy, who's played a key role in sourcing funding for eight sports wheelchairs for the team to use.
Managing the team will be Ben Harris, a wheelchair basketball enthusiast who spotted there was a gap in the region for such a team.
He said: “Wheelchair basketball is a passion of mine and I’m proud to be the manager of this new team. I personally needed to move forward in the national leagues so had this crazy thought of setting up a brand new team.”
They'll play in Division 3 of the British Wheelchair Basketball League and have already made a great start to their campaign, beating Folkstone Arrows 41-30 in their opening match.
