Cippenham's Rachael Iles made a big impact on the national scene last weekend, upsetting the seedings to finish second in the u12s National Cup.
Iles has been training with Cippenham for two years and did exceptionally well to come runner-up to the unbeaten Maliha Baig at the competition in Blackpool. She got off to a great start, beating Emily Cheung 3-1 in her opening match before beating Chui-Que Wong to love 3-0. In the pivotal clash with Sienna Jetha she recovered from being 2-0 down to win 3-2, triumphing 14-12 in the deciding game.
Saturday ended with a disappointing 3-0 defeat to second seed Bethan Ellis, and Sunday started with a 3-1 reverse against Baig. But she managed to claw herself back up to second place with victories over Mia Longman (3-1), Sophie Ackred (3-0) and Jessica Morris (3-0). Ellis, having beaten Iles, lost to Baig, Jetha and Wong to finish third.
Iles was presented with her medal by the President of Table Tennis England, Jill Parker MBE.
