Marlow FC bolster options by signing brothers Harry and Alfie Grant

Marlow have welcomed brothers Harry and Alfie Grant to the club this week with manager Mark Bartley believing both can become huge assets as the Blues bid for promotion.

The Blues have risen to third in recent weeks, off the back of three impressive league wins over the Christmas and new year period.

They saw their game at Sutton Common Rovers postponed on Saturday due to a waterlogged pitch, however, reinforcements have now arrived ahead of Saturday’s home game with Chipstead.

Bartley has been keen to bring in defensive and midfield cover following the loss of Babz Jarra to promotion rivals Uxbridge before Christmas.

Reflecting on the signings this weekend, the Marlow boss said: “I’m delighted to welcome Harry to the club.

“He’s a player I tried to sign the season before last when he was at North Leigh, but it wasn’t possible to get him across.

“His quality and level of ability is well known on the non-league circuit, and I’m pleased to finally get him on board.

“Harry provides us with options at left back and also in central midfield, but maybe more importantly for me, he is player who has been involved in squads who have achieved promotion in the football league and that knowhow will be a huge asset to us as we continue to pursue our goals.”

Alfie Grant has been signed on a dual registration basis with Reading City of the Combined Counties Premier Division North. Despite this Bartley expects he’ll make his Blues debut very soon.

“At the same time, it’s great to be able to announce Alfie Grant who signed earlier in the season and will now be on a dual registration basis with Reading City,” Bartley added.

“Our more observant supporters may recognise him from featuring on the bench earlier in the season against Hanwell.

“He has widely been regarded as the best young defender in the Reading area for a while now and therefore has clearly been on the radar.

“Over the last year his maturity and leadership qualities have come to the fore.

“When combined with his robust, defend first approach he is a great fit for us at Marlow.

“Clearly, we will work with Reading City as to his availability, but you can expect to see him making his debut in the near future.

“I’m sure you’ll all join in welcoming the brothers to Marlow and will give them your full support when they get out on the pitch.”
