Diversions will be in place in Marlow next week to allow for gas works in Pound Lane.
A small stretch of the road between Malthouse Way and the High Street is due to be shut to traffic from Monday.
The project is expected to take about five days, however an order made by Buckinghamshire County Council to enforce the closure means restrictions could be in place for up to 18 months if the work is not finished on schedule.
Vehicles will be redirected via Henley Road, West Street and the High Street.
