A market offering up a host of treats from tasty food to live entertainment in Bourne End is hoping to bring in lots of sales this festive season.
The Bourne End Community Market was first set up in 2011 and takes place on the second Saturday of each month.
The upcoming December market is set to be the largest with 80 stalls situated in Bourne End Library, Bourne End Community Centre and the outdoor areas surrounding the Wakeman Road car park.
The market, which is entirely volunteer run and not-for-profit, with all profits being donated to charity, will next take place on Saturday, December 9.
Opening for longer hours from 10am to 3pm just for December will give visitors a chance to enjoy a variety of tasty treats as well as pick some handcrafted items.
Attendees will be able to enjoy vegetable samosas, sausage rolls, homemade soup and hot drinks at a café, with all proceeds going to the Wycombe Food Hub.
There will also be a dozen food stalls offering a variety of items including a baker, butcher, fishmonger, fudge, wines, pickles, jams and takeaway treats for a range of tastes.
Visitors can start their Christmas shopping early, with a variety of artists and crafters, including dressmakers, jewellers, children’s cuddly toys, books and clothes on offer.
Stalls will feature hand crafted dog beds, bowls and skin care, with potions, bags, gift cards, wooden items, garden ornaments and pottery also available.
Marketgoers will be entertained throughout the day with live music from St Paul’s CofE Combined School and Wooburn Green Primary School orchestra performing at 11.30am and Julie Yarnell from the band The Vale Road singing solo from 12pm to 2pm.
Council from both the parish and Buckinghamshire are also present every month offering people the chance to discuss concerns they may have.
The free-to-enter market also provides different charities with the chance to talk about their projects and fundraise from the Wellness Hub each month in a gazebo which is sponsored by Wye Valley Volunteers, who have been providing befriending and hospital transport services since 1956 to the community.
The market is dog friendly and accessible for wheelchair users and appeals to people of all ages.
This year, the market has supported a host of charities, some of which include Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, Bourne End Junior Sports Club, Longridge and the British Red Cross.
Holly Whittaker, one of the volunteers that runs the market, said: “The shops [on] the parade, they do much better on market days. It brings a lot of people in.
“It’s really good for Bourne End businesses.”
Sharing her hopes for the upcoming market, Holly added: “Lots of Christmas sales for the stallholders who are all trying to make ends meet.”
Free overflow parking will be available in the office parks opposite St Dunstan’s Church and on Boston Road opposite Bourne End Station.
The first market of 2024 will take place on Saturday, January 13.
