A riverside hotel in Maidenhead which has been closed for more than two years is back open for business.
The Thames Riviera Hotel, in Bridge Road, closed during the coronavirus pandemic and has since undergone a complete refurbishment.
Galleon Hotels, which runs the venue, has upgraded all 51 bedrooms as well as creating three new long-stay apartments.
The hotel’s future had previously been in doubt after Galleon Hotels and the Arena Racing Company submitted plans to convert the landmark building next to Maidenhead Bridge into flats.
But these were quashed by the planning inspector in 2020 and the venue said it now has big plans for the future.
All 51 bedrooms have been refurbished at the hotel.
General manager Andrew MacLachlan, who recently joined the Thames Riviera, said: “I’ve worked at many hotels over the years and I like the fact that it’s a new venture, a new opening and we want to stamp our mark on it.
“We’re quite different to when we closed.
“When we closed it was a local pub but we’ve reopened as a restaurant.
“We’ve gone very contemporary, modern and we’re trying to follow that through with the cuisine.”
Further works which have been carried out at the venue include the refurbishment of the ground floor public area where underfloor heating has been installed.
The Thames Riviera Hotel now has a restaurant serving modern, contemporary food.
Bi-fold doors have also been introduced at the end of the restaurant so the dining spot can become a ‘focal point on the River Thames’ during the summer months.
The venue has three private rooms and will be accepting bookings for all kinds of events from weddings to baby showers and conferences.
Andrew added: “There are lots of plans for the future with events, jazz bands, Sunday lunches and we’re looking forward to it.”
