Demolition work has started on a former Indian restaurant.
Plans to knock down the former Diwa site, in Norfolk Road, and replace it with 10 flats were submitted to the Royal Borough in February.
Permission was granted in June.
Conditions attached to the application state that no one will be allowed to move in until parking provision and cycle storage outlined for the scheme have been provided.
According to the approved plans, the new building will be about 12.5m (41ft) at its highest point.
